The 2nd Shangpa Rinpoche began his monastic life after official enthronement by His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje. Upon coming of age at 11, he was ordained in Pokhara, Nepal, by His Holiness. At the age of sixteen, Shangpa Rinpoche joined the Central University of Tibetan Studies in Varanasi, India, where he mastered key subjects including Buddhist philosophy, literature, poetry, history and the Sanskrit language. Shangpa Rinpoche also received extensive empowerments, transmissions and essential teachings from great masters of different lineages. To this day, Rinpoche still remembers the kind advice of His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa who predicted that countless sentient beings would benefit by Shangpa Rinpoche’s propagation of Dharma. His Holiness is the source of boundless inspiration and limitless strength behind Rinpoche’s work. His teachers include His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, the 14th Shamarpa, Urgyen Tulku Rinpoche, Trulshig Rinpoche, Chogye Tri Rinpoche, Tenga Rinpoche, Khunu Rinpoche, Khenpo Richen, the late Dupsing Rinpoche, Choje Lama Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche and many others. At present, Shangpa Rinpoche is the Chief Abbot of various Buddhist Institutions in Nepal, namely, Jangchub Choeling Monastery, Vikrama Shila Buddhist Institute, Karma Ngedon Palbar Ling Retreat Centre in Pokhara, Tharpa Choeling Nunnery in Mustang, Drubgyud Choeling Monastry in Lumbini and Kagyu Institute of Buddhist Studies in Kirtipur.  He is also the honourable advisor of Dharmodaya Society, a member of the World Fellowship of Buddhists in Nepal, and Chairman of the Shangpa Foundation. Shangpa Rinpoche is also the spiritual advisor of Karma Shedrup Choeling in Denmark. He is also the head of Manjushree Hermitage and Manjushree Foundation in the United States. Shangpa Rinpoche is the abbot and spiritual advisor of Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre in Singapore. Shangpa Rinpoche first set foot in Singapore in 1982. Upon the request of His Holiness Shamar Rinpoche, Rinpoche became the spiritual teacher and advisor of the Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre in Singapore. Shangpa Rinpoche travels extensively to South East Asia, USA and Europe to give teachings. Despite his heavy responsibilities and busy schedule, Shangpa Rinpoche currently heads the “Dharmakaya Buddha Mandala Project” in Pokhara, Nepal, where one of the largest Buddha statues of the world will be built.
