The true understanding or correct view of reality is an essential prerequisite for actually attaining realization in meditation. Many Kagyu Masters have upheld the Shentong Madhyamaka as the most profound expression of this view. Lama Jampa Thaye is a scholar and meditation master trained in both the Sakya and Karma Kagyu traditions. He was appointed Lama by his two principal teachers, Karma Thinley Rinpoche and SH Sakya Trizin, and has been teaching since 1988. He was called to the Karma Kagyu Trust in the UK by SH, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, in 1974 and has been a lecturer at the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute in New Delhi for many years.
